Task Time

Task Time was the second project I worked on at ReadGraves. It's a party game based around physics puzzles, taking inspiration from the fast microgames of Warioware, and the silliness of TaskMaster; all of this, through a bright and colourful lens, almost reminiscent of The Telletubbies. Sam is the lead developer on the project, but he has a few other people working on it with him.

Due to the way the roles were distributed in my early time at ReadGraves, there wasn't really a programming role available for me on the project, so when I was moved to the project for budgetary reasons, I ended up on environment and level design. Mostly this came down to greyboxing areas, trying to get a picture of what they might look like, and how players might traverse them.

While I enjoyed this work, doing it day in and day out was beginning to wear thin for me by the time I came to the end of my term on the project. This taught me that while I can enjoy level design in part, it has to be supplimented by something else, such as programming, design or writing. When the time came for me to leave ReadGraves, I'd worked on four or five different levels, and was starting to feel bereft of ideas. I'd definitely like to keep working on level design in the future, but not as my sole role on a project.

Regardless it was fun to participate in Task Time while I had the opportunity, and I'm looking forward to seeing the project release and for people to get their hands on it. It'll be cool to see people running around levels that I had a hand in designing. When more info comes out about it, I'll be sure to add the links to this page.
